FAMILY FESTIVAL ESSENTIALS + POWER BALL SNACK RECIPE

FAMILY FESTIVAL ESSENTIALS + POWER BALL SNACK RECIPE

Festival season is in full swing. So here is my guide on what to pack when the little ones come too.

Biodegradable baby wipes (from ice cream dribbles to mascara disasters, these are an absolute must!)

Toilet roll

Snack bars, full of energy and a lot cheaper than festival snacks (Power Ball recipe below)

Water bottles as you can refill for free

Torches for little ones, the dark is scary for some. Buy some battery operated fairy lights and wrap around buggies for night time awareness. Obviously a torch for grown ups too

A solid buggy. We use a mountain buggy (they are bullet proof) and hold my bottom for a cheeky rest. There is always lots of walking to be done so pretty essential to minimise whining

Baby sling, if the weather gets bad even the most terrain pushchair wont get you very far

Waterproofs, wellingtons and good walking boots (plasters for any blisters)

A shower curtain to sit on or large waterproof poncho

Sun screen

Hand sanitiser

Phone charger. I have used the solar bee one in the past, or we have an adapter for our DeWalt drill that charges our phone, clever hey!! Helps avoid long queues. ~Tip~ turn on battery saving mode, and turn down screen brightness

Potty or bucket for toilet trips at night (2 am toddler toilet trips aren't fun)

A small first aid kit

Sun hats

Sunglasses (a real must for hayfever sufferers)

Ear plugs or ear defenders we have just brought some from screwfix which are cheap and have good reviews, I will let you know how we like them

Obviously I wont list the tent, tickets etc….

Here is a very sneaky recipe from my first book THE PLANTRY exclusively for your enjoyment, perfect for camp nibbling

Power Balls.

Vegan, refined sugar free and Gluten free.

These balls are a great handy snack to throw in your mouth when the hunger monster strikes. They are really quick and simple to make.

Makes 15 – 20 balls

Ingredients

15 medjool dates

3/4 of a cup of cashew nuts

3/4 of a cup of walnuts or another nut

2 tablespoons of ground flax seed

1 tablespoon of coconut oil

1 banana

1 Tbsp of sesame seeds

1 tbsp of cinnamon

Plus extra sesame seeds for rolling (around  ⅓ of a cup) You can use a mixture of seeds though or even coconut flakes, mix it up.

Place all of the ingredients into a food processor except the additional sesame seeds. Whizz at high speed until the mixture is evenly mixed. Knock back the mixture with a spoon to make sure nothing is left out.

Ready to get messy? Now you need to get around a tablespoons worth of mixture in your hands and roll into a ball. On a chopping board or plate cover with sesame seeds then roll the balls until covered completely with seeds. When you have used all the mixture up you should have lots of amazing looking power balls! Place in the freezer for around 1hr to set and then store in the fridge.

Enjoy.
